FIND YOUR ACADEMIC FIT

Compare the programme, campus and awarding body

Malaysia offers public and private higher education options alongside foreign branch campuses. For Pakistani students, a strong shortlist starts with the exact programme, its accreditation status, delivery campus and awarding institution. Check these details for the course you will actually attend.

Foundation & diploma routes

Check the progression conditions and which qualification the pathway leads to. Include every stage in your time and tuition budget.

Bachelor’s degrees

Compare modules, teaching language, campus facilities and professional recognition where relevant.

Master’s & research degrees

Check the required previous qualification, taught or research structure, supervisor availability and full programme fees.

PREPARE A STRONG APPLICATION

Entry requirements & application documents

Admission and English-language requirements vary by institution and programme. Use the Malaysian Qualifications Register to check the exact qualification and location, and confirm the current status with the institution. A familiar overseas university brand does not replace course-level checks.

  • Prepare your passport, academic certificates and transcripts, with translations or certification where required.
  • Check the programme’s language requirements, prerequisite subjects and any portfolio, interview or research materials.
  • Verify the campus, awarding body, programme accreditation and progression conditions before accepting an offer.
  • Confirm the intake, offer conditions, deposits, refund policy and the institution’s current EMGS and Student Pass instructions.
PLAN THE COMPLETE BUDGET

Tuition fees & living costs in Malaysia

Ask for an itemised quotation in Malaysian ringgit covering the full qualification. Compare tuition, accommodation and transport for the actual campus location. Branch-campus, private and public programmes can have different fees and payment arrangements, so compare confirmed course quotes rather than a single country-wide price.

Plan your budget in MYR · Malaysian ringgit
  • Include tuition, compulsory fees, deposits, accommodation, utilities, food and local travel.
  • Allow for EMGS processing and immigration-related costs, required medical screening, health insurance and flights.
  • Check whether a quoted fee is for one semester, one academic year or the entire programme, and whether taxes or other charges apply.
  • Confirm scholarships and any renewal conditions in writing; do not rely on finding work to pay your tuition.
UNDERSTAND YOUR PERMISSION

Malaysia Student Pass & work permissions

Follow the institution’s EMGS and Immigration Department process for the appropriate Student Pass and entry arrangements. Required evidence can include the offer, passport, academic record, insurance and medical documentation. Requirements and processing stages depend on the programme and circumstances.

Working during your studies

Part-time employment is restricted. The Immigration Department publishes a maximum of 20 hours per week at approved locations for eligible higher-education Student Pass holders. An application and approval are required. Confirm the permitted schedule and duties with your institution and immigration authority before accepting work.

After graduation

The Graduate Pass is a 12-month route for eligible nationalities and graduates who meet its conditions. Pakistan is not currently on EMGS’s published eligible-nationality list. Pakistani passport holders should not plan on this route being available; any future employment requires an appropriate, separately confirmed permission.

CURRENT PLANNING NOTE

Graduate Pass eligibility is nationality-specific

A Malaysian degree does not automatically provide a post-study work year. Check the current EMGS nationality list and the relevant employment-permission route before making a career or funding decision.

FAQs about studying in Malaysia

Practical answers for your next study decision, with guidance from IPF Abroad.

Are courses in Malaysia taught in English?

English-taught options are available, but the language and accepted English evidence must be confirmed for the specific programme. Check any additional language requirements for practical work or professional recognition.

How can I check whether a Malaysian programme is accredited?

Search the Malaysian Qualifications Register for the exact qualification, institution and campus. Accreditation is location-specific unless stated otherwise. Ask the provider to clarify any provisional or professional-recognition status.

Is the Graduate Pass available to Pakistani students?

Pakistan is not on the current published EMGS list of eligible nationalities. Do not assume that completing a degree gives a Pakistani passport holder a 12-month graduate stay. Check the list again before making plans.

Can international students work freely in Malaysia?

No. Eligible Student Pass holders need approval and must follow the applicable hours, location and duties restrictions. Confirm the conditions through the institution and Immigration Department before starting any employment.

How can IPF Abroad help me compare Malaysian institutions?

IPF Abroad can help you compare the awarding body, exact qualification, campus, accreditation, entry requirements and complete fee rather than selecting by a familiar name alone.

What should I ask about an international branch campus in Malaysia?

Confirm who awards the qualification, the campus where you will study and any transfer conditions. IPF Abroad can help you check the academic and financial details without assuming an overseas transfer is automatic.

Can a Malaysian diploma automatically progress into any degree?

Do not assume every diploma grants the same progression or credit transfer. IPF Abroad can help you check the receiving institution’s written conditions, accepted credits and any additional duration or cost.

How should I compare Malaysian study locations?

Compare the actual campus, accommodation, transport and required course expenses. IPF Abroad can help you put the full qualification budget alongside the academic fit and recognition checks.

What should I confirm before paying a Malaysian institution?

Check the offer, programme and campus accreditation, fees, refund terms and Student Pass process. IPF Abroad can help you identify the remaining questions before you pay a deposit.

How do I request a Malaysia study plan from IPF Abroad?

Complete the Malaysia enquiry form on this page. IPF Abroad can follow up to discuss your qualifications, chosen subject, intake and budget, then help you organise the next application steps.
